Whether you play the game legit or un-legit you have used World of Warcraft Macros before. WOW Macros can be split into 2 main categories. The WOW Macros that you do in game such as create a hot key to do a certain action. And the World of Warcraft Macros that are used in third party programs to emulate key strokes.
Macros and Bots differ in mainly one main way which is bots thing for them selves. A WOW macro will just push keys over and over again. A good example of a WOW Macro program is autoit. Macros can not e used to help create programs such as a WOW Map program, help make your starting characters player creation easier, or create a private server.
Autoit will push keys over and over again and is very useful for example something such as fishing bot created with it. However autoit does have a lot of features that will not let it do things as advanced as for example exhume. Autoit however could allow a player to create an easy to use fully function fishing bot which would allow the user to catch fish at any time of the day.
The problem with autoit mainly is it cant really do random key strokes. That means a player when controlling a macro program would have the program hit buttons in a random order so programs like warden cant see that the players are doing things over and over again. Another problem with autoit is it is VERY detectable. Autoit in no way included any sort of means to hide its program, so if a company attempted to find it they could do so very easily.
Here is an example of a nerfed WOW Macros Cheat From The Past
Hunter Solo Ras Frostwhisper (get past door)
This exploit / bug was not found by me, but read off another exploit site. I have though, expanded the information, to make it clearer.
1. Zone into scholo.
2. Take off all your armor.
3. Fall off bridge to the right, and die in front of the door
4. DO NOT RELEASE.
5. Main Menu -> Logout.
6. When logout gets to 1 second, click release.
7. Log back in, you should be in the instance, but in ghost form.
8. Walk through door, rez, equip your gear, eat, drink, and get pet out.
9. Open door to mini boss room, open door to ras, and gate to ras.
10. Stand outside gate to mini boss room, Cast eyes of the beast ( YOU MUST HAVE CAT WITH SPRINT AND STEALTH).
11. Run to Ras Frostwhisper's room, stealth past 3 groups of mobs, aggro ras, Sprint back through the three mobs.
This is a very difficult thing to do but it is possible. The mobs look like :

You must sprint with ya cat, between these groups, juking back and forth. IF you do this right Ras will follow you out of his room alone.
12. Bring ras with cat back to your hunter.
13. Hit ras, and kite him to the mini boss room.
14. Kite around top square of mini boss room, he will try to cast frost bolts across, but they wont work.
I run around, shoot with auto shoot when i can, keep Serpent Sting on him, some aim shots when he tries to cast. If you can get this down it is pretty simple. I picked up
enchanting for him, its two blues each drop, and on my 4th try, i got Recipe : Flask of Supreme Power, which sold for 500g within 10 minutes.
